College Choice (www.collegechoice.net/), a leading authority in college search and rankings, has published a ranking of the Top Fifty Online Master’s Degrees in Criminal Justice in the United States.

University of the Cumberlands, Arizona State University, Columbia College (Missouri), University of California Irvine, and Sam Houston State University occupy the top five spots on the list, which is based on factors such as cost of attendance, each program’s reputation in its field, and return on investment. Other schools include Lamar University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Florida State University, Faulkner University, and Bowling Green State University.

The rankings are based data that students have indicated is most important to them: cost and reputation. Data is drawn from a number of public sources, including U.S. News & World Report, the National Center for Education Statistics, and PayScale.

Sam Houston State University, founded in 1879, is the third oldest public university in Texas. SHSU is located in Huntsville, about an hour north of downtown Houston

Robert Hand, lead editor for the ranking, explains College Choice‘s ranking further: “Master’s degrees in criminal justice will require students to specialize beyond their general training in their bachelor’s program, and most schools will boast strengths in one or more particular areas. Our focus on online programs in this list gives students an additional measure of flexibility.”
