Debuting in Prague | 2011 USA National Exhibition of Design, Architecture & Space

NEW YORK CITY |  From the Edge: Performance Design in the Divided States of America” is a one-of-a-kind curated installation documenting the most politically compelling productions, performances and work processes that appeared in the United States between 2006 and 2011.  That period in consideration was the tumultuous period when an economic recession slammed our country and the political ferment brought about the rise of an African American as U.S. president. The first part of the process involved selecting works from 360 submissions from across the country and then creating a pavilion that would house these works at the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space.  That process was completed after we debuted the USA pavilion in Prague in June 2011. This slideshow documents the second part of the process. We want to share the work we did in Prague to Americans.  We wanted a gallery environment in New York to house the works. And we hope to inspire the next batch of curators and producers to create their own USA national space for the 2015 Prague Quadrennial. I took photos of our process from installation to opening. I hope you enjoy them. And I hope they spur you into coming down to LaMaMa LaGalleria (6 East First Street) to see the installation live. -rg, in the theater of one world Related articles Postcards from the Inge interview, Part 3 | A Ripple Effect (theaterofoneworld.org) IN EXHIBITION | From the Edge: Performance Design in the Divided States of America opens at La Galleria (theaterofoneworld.org) CURATORIAL ESSAY: From the Edge: Performance Design in the Divided States of America (theaterofoneworld.org) INTERVIEW Part 1 | From the Edge: Performance Design in the Divided States of America (theaterofoneworld.org) INTERVIEW Part 3 | From the Edge: Performance Design in the Divided States of America (theaterofoneworld.org) INTERVIEW Part …
