BERLIN, GUAM, AROUND THE U.S. — AND ABROAD |  Female leaders around the world are today celebrating the potential electoral win of the US’s first female president.

Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg says a victory for Hillary Clinton today on Election Day would be “inspirational” to young women. Then she joked that this wouldn’t lead to a “global girlfriends’ network.”

At a Berlin press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Tuesday, Solberg said a female U.S. president would show women that politics isn’t “something that belongs to men.”

Merkel echoed Solberg’s comments about creating more of a global balance between men and women in power. She declined to comment on whom she’d like to win the election, pointing out that the “trans-Atlantic partnership is certainly a prerequisite for us, especially cooperation in NATO.”

Gender is on the ballot today, but not in the way many of us expected.  Early expectations believed that the most prominent gender dynamics in 2016 would be about a woman breaking the highest, hardest glass ceiling in American politics.

The reality showed us otherwise.  This race may well serve as a referendum on the re-entrenchment of presidential masculinity. The masculine dominance of the presidency is quite literally on the ballot, not simply in the sex or gender identification of the nominees, but in the behaviors, values, and agendas they open-faced espouse.

The first Election Day results are in from Guam – and the people of the US island territory have decided overwhelmingly in favour of Hillary Clinton.

Guam voters traditionally predict the winner of the US election since 1980 – with the exception of 1996. In the past three elections, however, Guam decided the victor.

Clinton earned about 72 per cent of Guam’s vote, while Donald Trump earned only 24 per cent.

Still, Guam has no representation in the US electoral college, so these results have no bearing on the actually election.

U.S. Latino/a voters in Nevada overwhelmed the polling places during early voting that some were required to stay open an extra two hours to accommodate the people who showed up, according to KTNV political analyst Jon Ralston.

According to Ralston, Latino voter turnout is so high that Trump has basically zero chance of winning Nevada.

Meanwhile, Nevada state’s GOP chair, Michael McDonald, decried the extension of the times in Clark County, as the predominantly Mexican-American voters filed in to their polling stations.  He expressed his fears and the exasperations more or less in behalf of a losing team when he added, “You think this is a free and easy election? That’s why it’s important.”

Polls can remain open to accommodate everybody who shows up before the stations are scheduled to close.

Four Notable Ideals in Hillary’s Vision for America

Today is the first time in the 240 year history of the United States that voters have the opportunity to elect a woman as their president.  It looks certain that Hillary will break through the glass ceiling.

Vote for Hillary Clinton

Hillary is running for President because everyday Americans need a champion and she wants to be that champion for working people.

If elected president, Hillary Clinton will seek to inspire us with these covenants she desires to achieve.

Fair Tax System

Making sure the wealthy, Wall Street, and corporations pay their fair share in taxes.

Economy, Jobs and Wages

Americans can make the boldest investment in good-paying jobs since World War II.

  • Launch our country’s boldest investments in infrastructure since the construction of our interstate highway system in the 1950s.
  • Advance our commitment to research and technology in order to create the industries and jobs of the future.

Establish the U.S. as the clean energy superpower of the world—with half a billion solar panels installed by the end of her first term and enough clean, renewable energy to power every home in America within 10 years of her taking office.

  • Strengthen American manufacturing with a $10 billion “Make it in America” plan.
  • Cut red tape, provide tax relief and expand access to capital so small businesses can grow, hire, and thrive.
  • Ensure that the jobs of the future in caregiving and services are good-paying jobs, recognizing their fundamental contributions to families and to America.
  • Pursue smarter, fairer, tougher trade policies that put U.S. job creation first and get tough on nations like China that seek to prosper at the expense of our workers. This includes opposing trade deals like the Trans-Pacific Partnership that do not meet a high bar of creating good-paying jobs and raising pay.
  • Commit to a full-employment, full-potential economy and break down barriers so that growth, jobs, and prosperity are shared in every community in America.
