Christian Universities Online Publishes Ranking of Top 10 Engineering Degree Programs

DURHAM, N.C., March 6, 2023 / via PRNewswire /  Leading Christian higher education resource, Christian Universities Online (http://www.christianuniversitiesonline.org/), has published a ranking of the top 10 Engineering Degree Programs for 2017.

When considering a career in Engineering, the traditional “best schools” are no longer the best options.  While the traditional technical schools maintain strong programs, the discipline of Engineering has changed and expanded greatly over the past 25-30 years.

This has allowed for other schools to enter the field and produce excellent programs.  While structural, mechanical and civil engineering disciplines haven’t changed much over time, other areas have been impacted by improvements in support categories (like materials and applications) which has changed how the field looks today.  Thirty years ago, software engineering and web design were in their infancy.  Today, these fields are as popular (if not more so) than Mechanical or Civil Engineering.  In light of the changes to the field of study, CUO and In the Culture of One World are pleased to present the Top 10 Engineering Degree Programs for 2017

For this ranking, members of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) or schools that could be considered member eligible were evaluated for degree programs in the fields of communications and journalism. Christian Universities Online then collected publicly available data in the following five categories: 1) number of undergraduate and graduate degree programs in fields of engineering; 2) faculty-to-student ratio; 3) percent of full-time beginning undergraduates receiving grant or scholarship aid; 4) selectivity; 5) overall retention rate; and 6) overall graduation rate. Weights were assigned to each of these categories with the category of the number of degree programs having a slightly higher weight than the other categories.

LeTourneau University of Longview, Texas claimed the top spot on the list.

California Baptist University of Riverside, California and Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington, complete the top three.

Other schools making the list include (in alphabetical order):

Calvin College - Grand Rapids, Michigan

Cedarville University - Cedarville, Ohio

College of the Ozarks - Point Lookout, Missouri

Grove City College - Grove City, Pennsylvania

Liberty University - Lynchburg, Virginia

Lipscomb University - Nashville, Tennessee

Taylor University - Upland, Indiana

Anna-Rebekah Orr, site editor, states that the goal of the ranking is to highlight Christian schools that provide the best degree programs for engineering. Orr goes on to say, “When considering a career in engineering, schools traditionally considered ‘the best’ are no longer necessarily the best option for all. While the traditional technical schools maintain strong programs, the discipline of engineering has changed and expanded greatly over the past 25-30 years, making room for other schools to enter the field and develop excellent programs.”

Robust operating systems allow students to test designs using formulas instead of models. Applications and field equipment have become so technologically advanced and accessible that the field of engineering is wide open to all who have the desire and aptitude — there are hardly any economic obstacles to entering the field.
