NEW YORK CITY |  As planes, trains and other forms of transportation ground to a halt Monday October 29 as Superstorm Sandy made her presence known, many theatrical productions in New York City have either cancelled or postponed their performances. That’s a good thing, since transportation has shut down.  Much of Tuesday’s air and rail service has already been cancelled, and more than 10 million public transit commuters are without service.

Here’s what not to expect in New York onstage due to the ongoing effects of Sandy:

1) Idina Menzel‘s performance at Carnegie Hall rescheduled for Sunday, November 4. Carnegie Hall announced that the performance by Idina Menzel, presented by Live Nation and Princeton Entertainment, originally scheduled for October 29 in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage, has been rescheduled for Sunday November 4 at 8PM due to Hurricane Sandy. Tickets for Menzel’s October 29 performance will be honored at the new date. Ticketholders can direct any questions to CarnegieCharge at 212-247-7800.

2) AVENUE Q has cancelled its 10/30 performance at New World Stages (340 W. 50 St.) due to ongoing effects of Hurrican Sandy. Originally was originally scheduled to be dark on Halloween night, Oct. 31, AVENUE Q will now resume its regular performance schedule on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 8 p.m. For performance and ticket information call Telecharge at 212 239 6200 or visit www.avenueq.com

3) 54 Below announced that the following performances have been cancelled: Tuesday, October 30 at 8:30PM - Melissa Errico, and Tuesday, October 30 at 10:30PM - Backstage.  For patrons who would like to reschedule their tickets for Tuesday night, Melissa Errico plays at 54 Below through Saturday November 3. Those who have purchased tickets who are unable to reschedule will receive a full refund through TicketWeb.com. 54 Below will contact ticket-buyers about rescheduled performances.

54 Below plans to reopen Wednesday, October 31. (In the event that train and subway service is not restored by Wednesday, 54 Below will issue a further announcement.) Call 646-476-3551 or visit http://www.54Below.com for further updates

4) As a result of the suspension of public transportation by government authorities and additional safety precautions implemented due to severe weather on behalf of Hurricane Sandy, all Broadway performances on Tuesday evening, October 30th have been cancelled.

Charlotte St. Martin, Executive Director of The Broadway League, stated, “Now that the storm has arrived, I’d like to reiterate that the safety and security of theatregoers and employees is everyone’s primary concern. We expect normal operations to resume Wednesday morning.”

The Library, Gallery, and Preschool will remain closed.
