WALTHAM, MASS. |  Is peace education effective in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict? That is the heavy-duty question raised in the next lecture organized by the Coexistence and Conflict Graduate Programs (COEX) at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University.

The speaker: Dr. Ned Lazarus, School of Conflict Analysis and Resolution of George Mason University. He will speak on the impact of his study Wednesday, December 5th, 2012, 12:15 pm - 1:45 pm, Room G2, Heller School at the university.

Is it possible to successfully educate youth for peace when they live in a reality of intractable conflict? Ned Lazarus presents findings and reflections from 15 years of dialogue and peace education practice, evaluation and research in the Middle East. Dr. Lazarus’s dissertation is a long-term impact study of the Seeds of Peace program, inspired by eight years’ work as the organization’s Program Director in Jerusalem.

While rigorously evaluating a popular peace education model, this study tells the stories of a pivotal generation: Palestinians and Israelis who entered adolescence at the hopeful dawn of the Oslo peace process, to emerge as adults in an era of intifada and “separation.”
