NEW YORK CITY |  Broadway Barkada, the Filipino American theatre artists’ collective, is pleased to announce a concert celebrating the Tony Award, Drama Desk, and Outer Critic’s Circle Award winning songwriting team of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.

“There are themes of heritage, strength, sacrifice, family, and love in Lynn and Stephen’s shows. They speak not only to us as performers, but also as Filipinos,” says Brian Jose, co-founder of Broadway Barkada.

Jose continues: “The sacrifices our parents made to come to this country… The faith and endurance our fellow Filipinos show during the many devastating hurricanes… The deep sense of family that is inherent within our own Filipino theatrical community… They are all represented in Lynn and Stephen’s shows. The heart of the Filipino can be found in their beautiful music and we are excited to explore it with their blessing.”

MAKE THEM HEAR YOU: THE SONGS OF AHRENS & FLAHERTY (MTHY) will be presented one night only, Sunday, July 24th at 7 PM at The Cutting Room in New York City. The show will be directed by Broadway Barkada co-founder, Billy Bustamante with musical direction/arrangements by Steven Cuevas.

The show will star Alan Ariano, Emily Borromeo, Liz Casasola, Chris Ignacio, Brian Jose, and Gillian Munsayac with Kathrina Feigh, Joanne Javien, Loresa Lanceta, Adrienne Tang and Isabelle Van Vleet.

Special guest appearances by Don Darryl Rivera and Joshua Dela Cruz, currently appearing in Disney’s Aladdin on Broadway and a special reunion number by the cast of Imelda - A New Musical.

Part of the proceeds from MTHY will be donated to ARK, Advancement for Rural Kids.

The trio states: “We are a collective of professional artists whose mission is to provide a community for the Filipino artist, that cultivates our talents, educates our audiences, and elevates our global impact.”

Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty won the Tony Award, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards and received two Grammy nominations for their score of the Broadway musical Ragtime. For the songs and score of Twentieth Century Fox’s animated feature film Anastasia, they garnered two Academy Award nominations and two Golden Globe nominations. They are recipients of the 2014 Oscar Hammerstein Award for Lifetime Achievement, and in 2015 were inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame.

Their mutual theatre credits include Seussical (Grammy nomination, now one of the most frequently-performed shows in America); Once On This Island (eight Tony nominations, London’s Olivier Award for Best Musical); My Favorite Year; A Man of No Importance (Best Musical, 2003 Outer Critics Circle Award); Chita Rivera: The Dancer’s Life; Dessa Rose; Lucky Stiff; The Glorious Ones: Rocky; and Little Dancer. (2014 world premiere, Kennedy Center).

ARK is focused on improving education and health of school age children (pre-K, elementary and high school) living in impoverished rural communities in developing countries.
