DOLLY HELPS DISTRIBUTE $10,000 CHECKS TO DISPLACED FAMILIES

PIGEON FORGE, TENN. (May 8, 2023) | The Dollywood Foundation administered the final distribution from the My People Fund on Thursday May 4 with recipients noticing an extra surprise when they received the check.

Thanks to fundraising efforts, Dollywood Foundation officials were able to provide a $5,000 check to each family as they work to recover from the Smoky Mountain wildfires which occurred last November. Beginning last December, the My People Fund provided $1,000 each month to Sevier County families whose primary residences were completely destroyed due to the fires.

In total, recipients received $10,000 as a hand-up to help start their rebuilding efforts following the fire. The fund, which was established by Dolly Parton, The Dollywood Company, Parton’s dinner theaters and The Dollywood Foundation, was supported by contributions from across the country, as well as donations made through the Smoky Mountains Rise telethon which took place in early December.

“The My People Fund has been a great success,” said Parton. “I want to thank my team, the Dollywood Foundation, my friends in the music business and the thousands of people from all over the country who opened both their pocketbooks and their hearts to help us.

“Over the last five months, we’ve given nearly 900 families $5,000 to help them recover. Yesterday, we had our last distribution and I went over to The LeConte Center to say thanks to all the volunteers and to help give out a few checks myself. We matched what they’ve received already with another $5,000 check. I know $10,000 can’t solve everything, but I do hope the money will help them to dream again.”

In addition to providing initial monetary support to displaced families through the monthly check distribution, the remaining funds from the My People Fund will continue to help the people of Sevier County. At least $3 million will be contributed to the Mountain Tough Recovery Team which will serve the continuing needs of residents during the critical rebuilding period ahead. This program will begin helping families on June 1.

“We’re still receiving money, so we aren’t finished yet,” Parton added. “Recovery will take some time, so a new organization—called Mountain Tough—has been created to help our people get back on their feet for the next three years. We’re giving at least $3 million to help this new organization begin the next chapter of our journey.”

Mountain Tough assists individuals and families recovering from the wildfires by providing resources for the unmet needs of low-income families and individuals in Gatlinburg and the surrounding Sevier County area. The team seeks to restore the quality of life and provide for the long-term needs of those affected.

Anyone who wants to help the Mountain Tough Recovery Team with their efforts should visit www.mountaintough.org for information on how to donate, how to volunteer and much more. The website is the official source for all information regarding the recovery effort.

DOLLY’S “CHRISTMAS OF MANY COLORS” WINS TOP PRIZE FOR INSPIRING TV

NASHVILLE, TENN. (April 3, 2023) | Dolly Parton continues to enjoy a successful music career on many levels. Her “Pure & Simple” album and tour were both resounding successes, as have been her two NBC-TV movies: 2015’s “Coat of Many Colors” and 2016’s “Christmas Of Many Colors.” Both films were resounding successes for the network, and have resulted in a series of awards for the singer.

“Christmas of Many Colors” was cited as one of the TV and Cable winners of the 68th Annual Christopher Awards, along with “This Is Us,” the runaway hit of the season, Academy Award Nominees Hidden Figures and Hacksaw Ridge, and Gold Star Parents, an episode of the long-running CBS news magazine staple 60 Minutes. The award will be presented in a May ceremony.

The Christopher Awards win is the latest for the film, which also includes the Movieguide® Epiphany Prize for Television. It marks the second straight win for a Parton-related project, following “Coat of Many Colors.”

In April 2016. Parton’s “Coat of Many Colors” received the Academy of Country Music’s Tex Ritter Award, which honors a movie “released and / or receiving major exposure during the preceding calendar year, featuring or utilizing country music.” The award shares its name with Tex Ritter, a film and music star from the 1930s through the 1970s.

The films are both based upon Parton’s experiences growing up in the mountains of East Tennessee, and her memories of celebrating the holidays with her family. “Circle of Love” also detailed the beginning of Parton’s desire to make it in the music business. Both projects starred Rick Schroder and Jennifer Nettles as her parents, Robert and Avie, and Gerald McCraney as her grandfather, Jake Owens. Winning rave reviews for her portrayal of Parton in the movies was young actress Alyvia Alyn Lind.

HER DEBUT ALBUM, “HELLO, I’M DOLLY,” HITS 50-YEAR MARK
"Hello I'm Dolly"
“Hello I’m Dolly”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (February 13, 2023) | 50 years ago today, Dolly PartonDollyParton.com released her first full-length album, “Hello, I’m Dolly.” The album, which debuted on Monument Records, contained Parton’s hits “Dumb Blonde” (written by Curly Putman) and “Something Fishy” (written by Parton). Both singles reached the top twenty on the country singles charts, and the album itself reached #11 on the country albums chart.

Produced by Fred Foster, Hello, I’m Dolly caught the attention of Porter Wagoner, who ultimately invited Parton to become a member of his band and appear on his popular weekly television show. These appearances led to Parton’s rise to superstardom and she became a bonafide household name.

“I can’t believe it’s been 50 years since I did my first album,” Parton recalls. “What a wonderful 50 years it has been. Thanks to my Uncle Bill Owens and Fred Foster for believing in me early on. And thanks to all the fans out there…I hope to have at least another 50 years!”

The album contained Parton’s versions of three songs she wrote that had already been hits for other artists: “Put it Off Until Tomorrow” (Bill Phillips), “Fuel to the Flame” (Skeeter Davis), and “I’m In No Condition” which charted by Hank Williams Jr.

In December 2015, more than 13 million tuned into “Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors” and was the most-watched film on broadcast networks since May 2012. The sequel, “Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Christmas Colors: Circle of Love,” was equally as successful garnering 14 million viewers. In December 2016, Dolly’s humanitarian efforts shined once again, as she created the Smoky Mountains Rise telethon which helped raise close to $10 million to benefit the victims of the East Tennessee wildfires.
