NEW YORK CITY |  Oh, hello Bette, well, hello Bette. It’s so nice to have you back where you belong.  You’re lookin’ swell, Bette, I can tell, Bette.  You’re still glowin’, you’re still crowin’, you’re still goin’ strong.

The Divine Miss Bette Midler tweeted a photo of herself on March 14 as she sashayed and took over the title role of the already-much-touted Broadway revival of HELLO, DOLLY!

She looks like Carol Channing, doesn’t she?  At 71, Midler stars as the iconic matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi in the musical opposite David Hyde Pierce as Horace Vandergelder.

“Here I am for the first time as Dolly! Performances begin tomorrow #HelloDolly!’ she tweeted alongside the image of herself on stage in a red gown with a flamboyant red feather headdress.”

For starters, she’s breaking the bank and Broadway’s box-office records. In its third week of previews, the Broadway revival rook in $1,965,673.  The first for this house record is the highest weekly gross of any show in the history of the Sam S. Shubert Theatre. (The Shubert Theatre was built in 1913.)

The record-breaking gross of $1,965,673.00 was achieved in just seven performances over the week ending Sunday, April 2. The previous record, of $1,902,189.44, was set by Disney’s MATILDA over the 9-performance week ending January 1, 2017.

This production of Michael Stewart and Jerry Herman’s masterpiece, HELLO, DOLLY! , has quickly become the hottest ticket of the year, having previously broken the records for the best first day of ticket sales and the largest pre-performance advance sale in Broadway history.

Can’t wait to see her up-close? Having difficulty meeting bills this week?  No matter. Producer Scott Rudin recently announced that the entire first row of orchestra seating for all announced performances of HELLO, DOLLY! has just gone on sale to the general public. These premium tickets are available online at HelloDollyOnBroadway.com, by phone via Telecharge.com at (212) 239-6200, or in person at the Shubert Theatre box office (225 West 44th Street).

Directed by four-time Tony Award® winner Jerry Zaks and choreographed by Tony Award winner Warren CarlyleHELLO, DOLLY! began performances at Broadway’s Shubert Theatre on March 15, 2017, and will officially open on April 20, 2017.

Typically Carol Channing had been hogged this classic musical. This HelloDollyOnBroadway.com, the first new production of this classic musical (based on Thornton Wilder’s THE MATCHMAKER) to appear on Broadway since it opened more than fifty years ago, will pay tribute to the original work of legendary director/ choreographer Gower Champion, which has been hailed both then and now as one of the greatest stagings in musical theater history.
