NEW YORK CITY |  This weekend, the Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP), in its 60th year, touts what it calls “the brightest, best and newest artists and leaders of arts and culture from the worlds of dance, theater, music, comedy, family and youth programming and other forms of live performing arts for its annual gathering.”

The adjectives “brightest,” “best” and “newest” seem like a tall order, but self-confidence and self-promotion rise and ebb and, er, flow in the culture of U.S. arts presenting.

Lifted from a prepared statement, here’s the “APAP|NYC 2017 Don’t Miss” list of what to check out and what’s new, hot, and about to be seen on stages and at performance spaces near and far. And if you are a producer, manager, agent or presenter, you may want to get cracking to get solid bookings for many of these presentations.

APAP|NYC 2017 is one of 12 conferences, festivals and other performing arts forums collaborating as January In NYC, a partnership which brings more than 45,000 industry professionals, performing artists and enthusiasts to New York City Jan. 3 to 22.

Some were incubated at APAP|NYC. Other events sprung, in part, from the fact that the APAP|NYC conference draws so many performing arts professionals to New York City every January. In total, APAP and its January In NYC partners bring 1,500 live performance showcases and full length works to New York every January.
