College Choice Releases 2017 Ranking for the Best Online Colleges in Massachusetts

EUGENE, Ore., March 8, 2023 /PRNewswire/  Massachusetts is called the “Cradle of Liberty” for its role in bringing about the American Revolution, but it might as well be called the Cradle of Education. After all, it was the first state in the U.S. to require towns to establish a local school, it is home to the oldest school of any kind still in operation in North America, and it is home to the oldest college—as well as the oldest women’s college—in the country.

College Choice, a leading authority in college and university rankings and resources, has published a ranking of the 25 Best Colleges in Massachusetts for 2017.

Amherst College

Home to Boston, “America’s College Town,” along with a number of well-respected colleges outside of the Boston area, Massachusetts boasts a long and storied tradition of education. From small, elite liberal arts schools to large research universities, and everything in between, Massachusetts has a lot to offer prospective college students. This ranking seeks to act as a guide for students in their search.

“Trying to rank the best schools in Massachusetts is really a matter of comparing excellence to excellence,” Christian Amondson, Managing Editor of College Choice, said of the ranking. “Of course, there are important metrics that we take account of, and one of those is return on investment. We like to investigate how much students will pay for their college education, and how much that education will benefit them in the workplace.”

College Choice developed its list by looking at both return on investment as well as academic quality.

The ranking for the 25 Best Colleges in Massachusetts finds Harvard University in the top spot. Massachusetts Institute of Technology is in second, and Amherst College rounds out the top three.

The entire ranking, listed in alphabetical order, is as follows:

  1. Amherst College, Amherst, MA

And Massachusetts isn’t resting on its laurels. The neighborhood of Kendall Square outside of Boston has been called “the most innovative square mile on the planet” because of the amount and quality of start-ups that have emerged from the area. So it makes sense that in 2016, Bloomberg ranked Massachusetts as the Most Innovative State in America. With 121 institutions of higher education, the Commonwealth—as Massachusetts is often referred to—offers an extremely wide array of choices for your college education.
