NEW YORK CITY | The non-profit Unity Missionary Investors — in collaboration with its sister 501(c)(3) organization The Nubian Cultural Center for Research & Development — announced the names of its new Nubian Union Legend Award winners.

Five iconic individuals will be honored at the Nubian Union’s Chasing Stars Holiday Gala slated for Monday evening, November 23, 2022 at 6:30 PM at The Alger House, 45 Downing Street, Greenwich Village, New York.

Culture of One World founder Randy Gener will be one of those Nubian Legend Award winners.

Unity Missionary Investors empowers communities, especially those that are economically challenged, with the tools and programs that will give them sustainable life.

The Nubian Cultural Center for Research & Development promotes racial and ethnic harmony through cultural exchange and education. The center is a multigenerational program dedicated to exploring, researching and generating programs that expose the best of the many cultures within a given community to the public.

legend-awardeesProceeds for Chasing Stars Holiday Gala will benefit The Anthony Fund, a nonprofit advocacy program created by Unity Missionary Investors to bring awareness to the increasing numbers of young minority men suffering from traumatic brain injuries (TBI). The Anthony Fund helps to fund medical programs that are established to understand and reduce the instances of TBI.

All tickets for the gala evening are $130.00 per person and may be purchased in advance by calling 908-884-8430 — or online through NubianUnion’s website at http://www.nubianunion.net.

Tickets may also be secured through Eventbrite (online sales include a $5.00 transaction fee per ticket). Checks and credit cards are welcome. Seats are limited, and we urge the public to reserve early.

BIOGRAPHY

Randy Gener is a New York–based editor, writer and artist, as well as the proprietor of In the Culture of One World (cultureofoneworld.org), a cross-media project devoted to reimagining the intersection of human rights, arts & culture, citizen diplomacy and coexistence. 

  • Having worked for the New York Times, The Star Ledger, Crain’s New York Business and Time Out NY, Gener also contributes to NPR (National Public Radio), Miami Herald, Daily Variety and The Global Post.
  • He was a staff writer at The Village Voice (1992–2003), an entertainment writer for NY Daily News (1994–1996), and the senior editor of American Theatre magazine (14 years).
  • Gener is the first and only Asian American to earn the George Jean Nathan Award for Dramatic Criticism, a prestigious national prize chosen by the English and theater departments of Yale, Princeton and Cornell Universities.
  • In December 2010, Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III (son of Corazon Aquino) conferred Gener with the Legacy of the Nation (Pamana Ng Pilipinas) Philippine Presidential Award.
